About us

Garden Street Bistro, what started as a dream within a dream is now a reality. 

Years ago, a lifelong pizza chef came to Fernandina Beach with the dream of opening a pizzeria to spend the rest of his days throwing pies. He found an old abandoned bistro in a historic building for rent on the outskirts of the bustling downtown business district and he started working on building his pizzeria. 


By the second week he realized the work needed to convert the tiny breakfast kitchen into a busy pizza kitchen could take months or longer, and a schnauzer sized fortune to complete. And during this time people kept walking into the bistro looking for pancakes. A spark came to the mind of the pizza chef, he could open for breakfast while he worked on the plans to open his dream pizza kitchen. 


That's the moment Garden Street Bistro was born. 

Exactly two weeks later, on January 1st 2020, Garden Street Bistro opened its doors serving all day breakfast to a hungry crowed of southern style breakfast seekers. Day One menu included eggs and toast with bacon or sausage, and pancakes along with coffee and juices. Business grew fast, the menu grew, and despite setbacks due to Covid-19, business boomed. The bistro started as single room with both dining and an open kitchen, with a couple of tables outside in our historic courtyard. This single room transformed into what is now our kitchen, with our dining room now located in the historic house on the other side of our courtyard. 


And during the  fourth year of operation, the Pizza Chef finally opened his pizza kitchen in what used to be the original dining room. Now Garden Street Bistro is able to offer our full brunch menu as well as a full pizza and dinner menu, all day everyday. It's been over five years since we've opened our doors and it has been our pleasure to serve the island and it's amazing visitors every day.

We started with nothing but a kitchen sink and built a kitchen with one goal in mind: to deliver made from scratch food to our guests using the best ingredients and the freshest produce possible. Our dining room and courtyard were renovated to create a unique casual atmosphere. We want our guests to feel as if they are stepping into another world when they enter our bistro, into an oasis away from the noise and stress of everyday life where unique flavors await your pallet. We hope that our guests walk away feeling inspired and fulfilled after dining with us.
